Dodger Stadium Renovation in the Works

Posted on August 6, 2019 by Anthony Vulin in Uncategorized

With the 2020 MLB All Star Game just one year away, the Dodgers have unveiled plans for a $100-million renovation of Dodger Stadium.

The project, first reported by the Los Angeles Times, is expected to be built during this coming offseason.  The proposed improvements include:

  • a new center field plaza featuring food and beverage venues, sports bars, a children’s play area, space for live music and the collection of “Legends of Dodger Baseball” plaques;
  • left- and right-field pavilions with restrooms, enclosed bars, and “home run seats” beyond the outfield wall;
  • bridges connecting the new pavilions to the rest of the stadium, allowing for fans to walk the perimeter of the ballpark at any level; and
  • the replacement of the existing center field speaker tower with a new sound system.

Dodger Stadium’s seating capacity of 56,000 will remain unchanged.

Owner Guggenheim Baseball Management has reportedly invested $300-million into Dodger Stadium since purchasing the Dodgers in 2012.

Outside Chavez Ravine, other investors are looking for ways to funnel baseball fans into the stadium.  Aerial Rapid Transit Technologies, LLC is currently pursuing the construction of an aerial gondola system which would connect from nearby Union Station to Dodger Stadium.The backers of the proposed $125-million system say that the tram would offer a five-minute one-way trip, with capacity for 5,000 passengers per hour.
